Superintendent's Message

Victor Villar

Dear Laton Community:

Laton Unified continues to strive to excel in academics, athletics and social-emotional support for all of our students. We have dedicated employees that work towards the objective of ensuring that we offer a quality education in a safe and healthy environment for our children.

Our objective this year has been one of continuous improvement in everything that we do while at the same time supporting our employees in both resources and professional development.

As part of our commitment to improving both our academics and our facilities, we will be putting Local Measure B on the June ballot to try and generate revenue for a state of the art Multi-Purpose Facility, two new classroom wings at the Elementary/Middle School, a new Elementary/Middle School Office, and new parking lots both at the elementary/middle and the high school campuses. Our whole goal with our proposed upgrades will be to improve the educational environment of our students and our overall customer service to our entire community. In addition, this action (Measure B, if passed) will put the district in a position to  apply for both Modernization and New Construction Funds from the Office of Public State Construction. It also maximizes our opportunity for additional funding from local, state and federal funds.

We are also working towards expanding our Dual Immersion Program by adding a second Dual Immersion Kindergarten class for the 2018-19 school year. This will start the process of having two Dual Immersion classrooms at every grade level, to seventh grade, in the years to come. Laton Unified originally started it’s Dual Immersion Program over 20 years ago and has continued to be an innovator in regards to processes and practices that honors both our English and Spanish speaking cultures. Our district has proudly graduated students that are fluent in both Spanish and English and have earned the right to attain a State Seal of Biliteracy upon high school graduation, that they can then present to prospective employers. This State Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates their commitment to developing fluency in both English and Spanish.

We value the long standing partnership with our community through community events, such as our annual Laton Rodeo and ongoing academic and athletic support. We also look forward to establishing these same partnerships with prospective staff members, thus demonstrating that working at Laton Unified will provide you with a wonderful experience in serving our students.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your district superintendent and rest assured that I will continue to work for the betterment of our district, community and students in any capacity within my power.

Victor M. Villar, Superintendent,
Laton Unified School District
